Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition
konkurs.chopin.pl
This is one of the oldest and one of the most important piano competitions in the world. It began in 1927 and takes place every five years; the only interruption to the competition was caused by World War II. This excellent event was the idea and initiative of an outstanding pianist and teacher, Professor Jerzy Żurawlew. His aim was to popularise Chopin’s music.
The prestige of the competition is such that it can raise a pianist’s career to new global heights, and even the so-called ‘losers’ receive much attention and success. The competition itself enjoys unflagging interest, and the number of applications for future competitions is steadily increasing.
The next competition takes place in October 2010, and there will be a new and very attractive setting and program for both participants and listeners.
