pl. Defilad 1, Museum of Technology, Palace of Culture and Science (map)The Museum of Technology (Muzeum Techniki) in the Palace of Culture and Science holds its own attraction, the Planetarium; thanks to special equipment, the inner dome of the planetarium displays the image of the sky as it is visible from the earth's northern hemisphere, at any time of the day and year. The Warsaw Planetarium was founded in July of 1972, and it was the third in Poland (there were already planetariums in Chorzów and Gudziądz). At the time, it was equipped with the only available type of low-Zeiss apparatus - ZKP1.
Today, star-gazing shows and lectures are prepared for school trips, and recently, a special display has been put together for younger children: on Sundays starting at noon, shows are scheduled for children around seven years of age. Most shows are astronomy lessons for pupils from primary and secondary schools, while others (held on Saturdays and Sundays) are for individuals. Currently, more than 15 different leading topics are held at the Planetarium (most of which are for schools). Annually, there are over 700 screenings for approximately 18,000 star-rapt spectators.
